Common questions
Why is discovery a separate paid service?
Because an accurate quote requires understanding the problem, and understanding the problem is real work. Free scoping gets you an optimistic guess that both sides regret. Discovery gives you written requirements, a technical recommendation and a fixed price for the build — and it is yours to take elsewhere if you would rather someone else built it.
Do I own the code?
Yes. On completion and payment, the code is yours, in your repository, with documentation. We do not build things you have to keep renting from us.
Can you work with our existing developers?
Yes, and often that is the best arrangement — we bring specific capability, your team keeps the context. We work to your standards and review process rather than imposing ours.
What technologies do you use?
We choose the stack to fit the problem and the people who will maintain it afterwards, rather than the other way round. If your team knows one framework well, building in something else is usually a false economy, and we will say so.
How do you handle scope changes?
Discovery produces a written scope and a fixed price. Changes get quoted as changes rather than absorbed silently and then argued about at the end. You always know what a decision costs before you make it.
Can you take over a project someone else started?
Usually. We would start with a short audit of what exists, because inherited code needs assessing before anyone can quote honestly on continuing it. Occasionally the honest answer is that rebuilding is cheaper, and we will tell you if so.
Do you build mobile apps?
Web applications and progressive web apps, yes. Native iOS and Android is not our specialism, and we would rather refer you to someone who does it well than learn on your budget.
Am I tied into a contract?
No. Projects are fixed scope and fixed price. The retainer runs month-to-month and can be cancelled with 30 days notice.
